ちょっと、一瞬間、うれしかった

When presented with an opportunity to change, there is often a dilemma. To change, is to adapt, is to harmonize, is to fit into the box. But the change might be irreversible. Humans are sometimes afraid of changes – when they don’t know themselves well enough, introducing a change might make them not know themselves more – and that is what scares them.

A change is sometimes a gamble, you are able to benefit fully from the change, but at the same time you might risk turning into someone you don’t know. To some people, changing themselves is no big deal, as long as the change improves their image in front of other people; for others, they want to keep their values, their principles, their pride intact no matter what, aka “the stubborn people”.

When presented with an opportunity to change, there are 3 choices:

  1. To embrace the change fully. You accept the change and completely overwrite your beliefs, values, principles. You benefit from the change. Like water that happily fits into the container, happily dissolves sugar. And they lived happy and ever after.
  2. To reject the change at all costs. Like a piece of rock, you insist on keeping your shape. You missed the benefits of changing. If the outside world wants to change you, they’ll have to do it by force.
  3. The sly way that might raise contradiction – you embrace the change, but keeping your values and principles you think is right. You benefit from the change, while still keeping your integrity. Like a piece of elastic gel, you fit into any container – but do not change your shape exactly according to the container if your chemical composition does not allow it, and do not blend your chemical composition easily. But you gain a wider perspective on everything you see. And they lived happily ever after.

To embrace or to accept or even to “accept” a change. It’s your choice.

人間

Humans need a reason to justify each of their actions. When there is no reason at all, or the reason contradicts with their own values, they will either conciously or subconciously make up their own reasons – which are what known to be excuses. With a faux reason in place, humans can perform all actions with confidence, though deep down they are unsure. Yet, humans hold on to their reasons tightly, they don’t want to let it go, they’re unable to let it go, as if their existence depends on it.

When there’s a slight chance he doubt his own reasons, he will make up more reasons to reassure himself. If a third party tries to challenge the validity of the reason, it most often leads to a bloody war between the two parties.

Part true is more dangerous than whole lies. Humans tend to believe in something fully when part of it reflects the actual facts – the rest of it can be lies. This is a psychological phenomena where humans will remain skeptical and conduct reasoning process, until a set level of tolerance whereby the information complies with the reasoning – then they will stop reasoning and believe everything else after that.

xxxxxxxx provides human reasons for all their actions. It only takes a human to realize and break out of the loop, then exploit the power of xxxxxxxx as a way to control the minds of a large number of people – because humans believe everything the xxxxxxxx states.

Give a man in darkness light, and he will follow the light blindly.

僕の思い、届かない

When you’re busy chasing after something in life, nothing else comes into mind, you isolate yourself from the the society, your time seems frozen. Unknowingly, the time space outside your domain gushes away, days are like hours, hours are like minutes and minutes are like seconds.

When you finally take a break and slow down. Everything seems different now, yet, you’re still isolated. You lose your direction. What was I doing all along? What am I doing now? What am I going to do? You can’t reach your feelings.

Everybody else moved on, you’re being left behind, you’re still on the same spot. Except, like everyone else, you have now aged. Time has slipped away.

This is a dream. I’ll go to sleep. When I wake up the next day, everything will be fine.

迷う子ヒツジ

Up until now, textbooks, storybooks and fairytales have shown us a flawless world, an ideal world – a fake world. A world where evil is absolute evil, a world where good is absolute good, and nothing lies in between them. In the real world, things are not as simple as it seems: each individual is an entity to a synergistic group of entities – a community. Each entity is a duplicate of us, with a bit of variation in moral values, mindset, point of view, beliefs, and physical attributes.

For an entity to stay with the community, it must harmonize with other entities – a mutual agreement, whether or not the mutual agreement is passive or active. An example from nature: a bee and a flower – bee takes nectar from flower with pure intention of ‘obtaining nectar’, but at the same time, it unknowingly carries the pollen to other flowers, fulfilling the flower’s intentions, without much effort – this is an example of perfect harmony, intentions are hidden from the bee, but it gets the job done. Another example takes place between 2 monkeys, Monkey A scratches Monkey B’s back, and Monkey B scratches Monkey A’s back – both parties form a mutual agreement with both parties acknowledging the intentions.

An example of one-sided benefit (parasitic) ending up in disaster would be the case of mosquitoes – mosquitoes consume blood from host, host obtains nothing in return. In the end, host attempts to destroy mosquito, mosquito dies. Host: 0, Mosquito: 0. However, there might be pitfalls on what situations might appear to be mutual at first. Example: A venus flytrap presents what appears to be nectar to the fly, but once the fly goes in, it shuts up the trap and consumes the fly – Venus Trap: 1, Fly: 0.

A lost lamb is seen, stuck in the ‘perfect world’, rejecting the reality, wondering why is the reality so different than what it seems to be. Efforts of guiding a lost lamb from the ‘perfect world’, ended up in failure. Showing a potential case of Monkeys, the lost lamb emotionally disintegrates, rejecting the guide, and the theory as a whole, mission failed. Maybe the guiding process should be done slowly and less transparent. *sigh*

人間は面白いの存在だ

Humans are complicated, hard to understand, yet very interesting creatures. Humans are unable to survive alone, and thus live in groups, just as wolves live in packs – surviving by mutual reliance.

Because of long term living in communities, socially, humans tend to detest people who stand out too much, and in return do not want to stand out, to avoid being rejected by the society and thus, losing his or her own identity. They become followers, following the social trends: if one of them could not keep up, he/she is labeled as outdated.

Recently the society has developed into a more self-centric one, with each individual exploiting each other to achieve his/her own private goals. Or maybe, it is like this all along. It is not easy to identify whether any of the actions taken by an individual is considered as pure hearted, based on free will or with separate intentions.

Though I don’t believe humans conduct actions entirely motiveless – there must be some sort of motive, some sort of intention. It’s just the level of intentions are different. For instance, an individual might assist on another individual to develop trust, or to develop a friendly relationship, or to expect a similar treatment in return, or to avoid being labeled as cold hearted, or to blend into the community etc. Even a reason such as “wanting to see him/her smile” is an intention itself.

Helping a person when the person request for help and helping a person without the person asking are different. If the person asks for help and you aid him/her, it’s considered as “doing a favor”. But when helping a person when the person do not ask for help, there might be a few possibilities happening: the person do not wished to be helped, or the person do not expect help.

Since there are people who exploits human emotions by offering what appeared to be unconditional help but actually bearing ill intentions, it is normal for people who are receiving “unconditional” help to be extra cautious, bearing doubts on the true intentions of the helper. In turn, people who gives help based on pure intentions think twice before assisting to avoid misunderstanding.

On the other hand, there are also exploits which involve requesting help with ill intentions which again, in turn develops cautiousness in free-will helpers and further reduces the number of them.

With all these factors reaching an equilibrium, the society has become cold – filled with paranoia. Helping a person, when being requested or not, is not a social norm, and people avoid taking actions simply because other people are not.

In rare cases, individuals who are sick of the society, isolates himself, because he no longer understands himself. Is he no different from the society – elegant on the outside, rotten on the inside? He wished to know, yet is afraid to know. He doesn’t want people to think who he is not, yet doing things that is not him, yet wanting to know what exactly is himself.

He is confused.

If you’re reading this, I believe you’re confused too.

The Art of Communication

DD, MM & S:

Sometimes the only way to communicate and understand each other is to shut up and listen, and remain shut up. Then analyze holistically for a day with a cool-headed mind, come up with a resolution and rephrase it to a way that is least offensive as possible to show your opinion. Sometimes you make conclusions based on listening only half of the story, influenced by your current emotions and false assumptions.

In a debate, raising your voice and losing your cool is a sign of defeat, your emotions are compromised and your decisions are influenced. As the party that just lost your cool, it’s time to shut up and cool down. As the party whose opponent is someone that just lost his/her cool, shut up, listen and try to understand.

If someone’s opinions differ from yours, just express your own opinion and be done with it. His/her acceptance of your opinion is entirely up to his/her freedom. What you do is show some respect in his/her opinion and try not to force your thoughts into someone else.

The key to mutual understanding is by putting yourself is someone else’s shoes. Think how they think, feel how they feel, see how they see, listen how they listen – then only you’re at least a bit capable of making assumptions.

There is a reason behind all actions, if you don’t understand the real reason behind it, you’re not worthy of commenting on it. It takes communication to understand the reason, not assumptions.

Stubbornness is caused by inferiority complex or getting one’s pride challenged. It takes two hands to clap – clashing only occurs when both sides are equally stubborn.

Sometimes the things that is expected to exist, when placed in front of your eyes, seems almost non-existent and insignificant; while the things you don’t expect to exist, when placed in front of your eyes, seems significant. Until the time the “insignificant” cease to exist – you will notice how significant it once were.

Happiness is a choice, not a coincidence. The way to end all suffering is to learn how to let go. There are some things that cannot be changed no matter how hard to try, there are people who do not wished to be helped no matter how hard to try – let them go, grant them freedom, and your pain will go along with it. If you insist on getting worked up over trivial matters, you’re only finding misfortune to yourself, and you deserve the suffering you brought upon yourself.

Treasure your family – they are the only ones willing to ruin themselves for your sake, and the people you hurt the most throughout the course of your life, as well as the only ones that will be by your side no matter how hard you push them away – until the end of their time.

Dilemma

A girl, out of the blue, asks you: “Do you have a girlfriend?”

What is the best answer? “Yes.”, even though you’re not having one and never had one? “I had one”, even though you never had one?

Or do you want to be honest, “No” – and get slapped with either “Why?” or “Are you gay?”. The primer is the hard part as “because I’m shy” is too embarrassing, “because I’m passive” is too arrogant, “because of face problem” is low self-esteem, so you’re left speechless. The latter can be easily replied with a negative answer like “No”, but the people around you would still make jokes out of it.

This happened a few times. What I usually do is immediately divert the attention and change the topic.

Anybody has better ideas? Comments please.

(“No, do you want to be my first one?” is crazy – this won’t work.)

甘い子供

I see kids rushing to become adults. Doing what adults do, behaving like how adults behave. Blindly following, unknowing of the reasons behind all actions, unknowing of the consequences of all actions. Yet, they’re proud of it, because everybody does the same, even though deep down below, they are unsure, knowing they might be wrong. When “everybody” is just the very same people who have made the same mistake - A stand alone complex, followers without leaders, copycats without originators.

Yet I see adults behaving like kids. Those who yearn for their lost time. Those who matured without going through the process of maturing. Those who stand on a plank between adolescent and adulthood.

Open your eyes. Open your heart. Listen to yourself. Is this really what you wished for?

Adults do the Darnest Things

Adults, who are always thought to be mature and wise are not as it seems after all. Though with more experience in life, they frequently make the same mistakes as we – the youngsters make.

They discriminate people who are different from them. They force their thoughts to people. They push their words into people’s mouth. They actually like to create conflicts. They make a fuss over small matters. They push away responsibilities. They talk like some diligent you met during high school. They don’t have ‘mutual respect’ in their vocabulary. They shout like animals. They tend to run away from problems rather than solve them. They’re plain arrogant and full of themselves. They don’t admit their mistakes and expect you to admit your own mistakes. They’re darn stubborn and complains you’re stubborn instead.

Things get worse when you are expected to obey their orders just because they are older than you. Stuck in between the shit war they start in their family. Get flamed from doing something stupid. Get flamed just because they did something stupid and you didn’t prevent them from doing so. Get flamed because you prevented them from doing something stupid, but in an inappropriate tone. Put up a mask when confronted with them even though you should have really, really point out their errors.

The worst thing is: they are your (our) role models – you (we) have to treat them with highest respect.

Well, I hope I don’t grow up to be like them, seriously.

仮面

mask01

The mask the people wear, to shield them from despair. Most often society bear customs, thus the mask was born when true feelings are kept. To blend and to be one is what people have done, but not once they stop and think "What have I done?". Blindly following is what the society does.

"It is for politeness" some might say, is just an excuse for what you will say. The mask can be replaced at the end of the day, who knows what one claims on another day. So it shall crack when one is in need, to bring wrath upon the ones deceived. The mask bears a thousand lies.

Darkness lies along everyone's hearts, the mask is thought to hide the dark. It is a fact the mask bearer shall know, for a matter of time before the darkness show. Beneath the mask one's face shall rot, turning back one could not.

A veil between one's hearts the mask is, eradicating it shall bring the world peace.

Let's face it, college life is not as fun as high school life. This is my attempt to gather people together to work as a whole - to improve each other, to improve the course, and to improve college life. Radiant Garden is meant for everyone to share new things and knowledge, as well as a place to learn and gain. Membership is not only open to BENGEEE-SHU-1C, but I hope I can start off from as little as this to something bigger.

Freelance Programming Rocks!

fea27916

Freelance programming can really be a lucrative side-income - it can pay for all your tablet, PSP, N82, NDS, PS2, Dodokon, Garmin Nuvi etc. needs. Based on my slacking-side part-time freelance income calculations, it yielded more than RM10,000.00 extra to my pocket. Now that's something I didn't notice till now. Too bad employers here don't pay as well as they do in the US - software engineers are one of the highest paid jobs in the United States; here, we work like dogs and paid like dogs as a employee.

RM500/mo for internship for a professional job that works the dog out of you? Get real. Better off being a full-time freelance programmer.

Parents

Have you ever sit down and think how your parents have treated you and how you've treated them all these years? For some people, they might think parents are people who want to take control of their lives. I mean, let's face it - parents can be really bossy at times when they don't listen to you and expect you to obey what they say. Then when you're really pissed off at that time you'll yell back at your parents, and in return - either lock yourself inside a room thinking of how miserable your life is, or getting a 4 hours lecture from your dad, or watching your mom emo-ing all over the place.

Stop and think. There should be a reason behind all these. Well, why do they took all the trouble to nurture you, watch over you, protect you and raise you all these times? Just to take over your life and have you rebel against them? It does not make sense at all. They did all these knowing the fact that you will eventually leave them somewhere in the future.

Though it's a bad analogy, let's say you're raising a pet dog. You took care of it since the day it was born. You feed it, clean it, took care of its droppings, clean up after its mess. One fine day it tore apart your favorite shoe, so you got enraged and scolded it but in return it got angry and bit your hand. How would you feel? What if you know one day the dog will leave you - will you still take care of it?

I know parents are sometimes wrong. But parents are humans too, just like us. They make mistakes just like how we screw up sometimes. Well, if you dislike your parents comparing yourself with other people, or dislike them making jokes out of you in front of relatives, or just anything - you can always talk to them nicely. Of course, you must be willing to think it all over and don't expect your parents to do what you said - because sometimes the problems lies in you.

To make things simple, you put yourself in your parents shoes - you think what they think, you feel what they feel. Eventually you'll understand being a parent is not easy at all. You'll have to bear the responsibility of raising, educating and protecting your children. On top of that, you'll have to take care of the emotions of your children and bear all the responsibilities of the mistakes your children make - making sure they turn out to be the best they can.

People often wonder the reason I follow my parents around, unlike my sister, who is always not around. I respect my parents. They've guided me all these years and shielded me from the cruelty of the world. Without them, I will cease to exist.

It's time for me to do the same to my parents. I'll make them feel safe. I'll make them feel they're not alone. I'll protect them.

A talk on dreams

I just woke up from an afternoon nap and I have this weird dream that skips from scene to scenes.

Part one of the dream involves me buying tickets for movies. I bought a lot of tickets so the price is kind of expensive. It took me quite some time to combine the small quantities of cash in my wallet to pay. Apparently for some unknown reasons the cashier said I paid insufficient amount of cash. Out of the blue security guard guy (with plain clothes, no uniform) came towards me a dragged me out of the queue forcefully. All the while I tried to explain to him it was a misuderstanding but he didn't listen and grabbed my neck. Just when I want to fork out some Aikido moves and teach him a lesson - I woke up from my dream. BUMMER.

Part two involves in a game (I think is RO, no details), I left my game character on a map and I activated rain. The next morning I come and check the character appeared somewhere else. So as I investigated the incident, it turns out the game's rain will induce flooding and thus the character gets flushed to somewhere else.

Part three is where I teleported to some unknown time and unknown place where I was participating in a competition. I think it's related to some tech entrepeneurship thing. So the participants and I rode on a jetplane back to Malaysia. The jetplane is operated by some unknown nation. They boast about their safety features where you can escape from the sides whenever accidents happen. The plane is not very big, but has ample space for us (rows and rows of sofas), guess it's a private plane. When entering Malaysia air space the plane was forced to enter a thunderstorm area. There was a heavy turbulence and everybody was afraid that the plane will crash. That time I tried to use telekinesis and control the weather. Surprise surprise! The weather within the plane's area cleared off (it's like a hole in the storm). I remember someone commented on how weird is the weather, sudden on sudden off. Then the plane landed and starts cruising on the roads (?!). The crew member told us this is a special plane that can cruise on normal roads. I remember the ruckus we made caused a motorcyclist swaying left and right, nearly falling while watching us pass by dumbfounded. Then the ruckus caused a few sports car tried to race with us, but end up banging into each other.

Then the scene jumps to a ceremony (voting and prize giving). For no apparent reason I am winding wires and packing up stuff during that ceremony. In the ceremony, the big shots in fortune 500 companies get to vote which participant they like the most. Then durng the voting session, a guy participant claimed to be from KBU approached me. He said he was from some kind of computer course (I don't remember). Then a girl participant, who appears to be from KBU too, approached me too. Just when I asked her which course she took, *poof*. I woke up from my dream. BUMMER.

Normally in my dreams I kind of have telekinetic abilities... When I concentrate my thoughts, I am able to fly and in this case, control weather. (Don't tell anyone: I used to play micro-telekinesis in LRT *nothing better to do* where I try to force the LRT to close the doors/start moving by issuing commands in my mind. *of course it doesn't work in real life though there are a lot of occurences where the timing is just right :P*)

Nokia N82 - A Power User's Review

The following is my review on Nokia N82 after using for over 24 hours, based on my personal view.

The Looks
Though I personally prefer clamshell phones, the Nokia N82 - although being a candybar form factor - looks undeniably well designed. The phone's size is roughly equals to Motorola A1000 but the mass is around half of it. The housing is made out of acrylic-type (I'm just guessing based on the optical and physical characteristics, don't take my word for it) reflective mateial, so it feels solid on the hands. The buttons are designed to save space, while preventing users with big thumbs from pressing the wrong buttons - small, yet properly spaced. The sensitivity of the numerical keypad is excellent. Though the shoulder buttons and joypad are slightly awkward to press. The headphones slot is placed on the top instead of on the side (A1000), which made the phone fit well into the pocket and solves the problem of accidentally disconnecting the headphones. Equipped a QVGA (240x320) TFT LCD with smart backlighting (with light sensors on the front of the unit), the display of the phone is consistently crisp and vibrant.

The Feel
Running on one of the latest OSes from Nokia - the Symbian S60 3rd Edition r20.0.062 (9.2 kernel) - the N82 has a clumsy OS due to the comparatively deep and over-complicated menus. The configuration panels are scattered everywhere. For instance WiFi configuration can be controlled in 2 different places; you have to dig into a chunk load of menus just to change the display options; some menu categories are oddly splitted and placed in different locations; applications are oddly categorized, and the list goes on.

Furthermore, the OS locks most parts of the C/D/F/Z drives from user-land application access, making easy-customizations to the OS almost impossible. The OS doesn't provide useful (user-friendly) error messages when fatal errors occur, for instance APN locked by USIM (though it's more like an OS limitation rather than USIM) is reported as a very cryptic message.

The OS' use of the hardware accellerometer by switching the display into portrait/landscape mode when you tilt the phone doesn't work very well, a bit too sensitive. Furthermore, the OS' MIDP 2.0 implementation is non-standard, especially for the copyArea method in Graphics objects - it is totally screwed when copying regions that overlap.

Of course, the OS is not a total disaster, the quick application shortcuts on Standby Mode (Microsoft lingo: Today Screen; Symbian UIQ lingo: Home) are highly configurable. Another feature worth mentioning is the quick start application for the phone to import Internet and messaging settings from the USIM card. The feature of ringing through both the internal loudspeaker and headphones when calls are being received in headset mode solves the "listening to MP3 in train" scenario.

Though the online firmware updater is a really nice feature, the Nokia Software Updater installation on Windows Vista is as bumpy as driving off-road on a Jeep (though I think most of the problems lies in Vista itself). I have to reinstall it 4 times just to finish installing without failing halfway through.

Due to having dual 332MHz OMAP ARM11 CPUs, the phone software and applications are very responsive. To demonstrate the power of the CPUs, the 5 Megapixels camera boots up in less than 4 seconds right after you flip open the camera shutter. The dual CPUs seems to save power quite well, compared to Motorola A1000's single 160MHz CPU.

The GPS hardware and drivers are excellent. This is my first time getting a satellite fix in less than 1 minute (in fact, almost instant) on a mobile phone. Normally, A1000 takes around 10 minutes to obtain a fix, even on AGPS mode; the N82 did it in shorter time, without AGPS - making GPS navigation really fast and easy. One drawback is the accuracy of the GPS hardware - it is not really useful on places with narrow lanes due to having low accuracy.

Transferring files to the N82 is really fast (almost 10x faster than A1000), kudos to Nokia on that.

Sound quality (stock headphones) on the N82 is above average, with great treble and weak, but acceptable bass (you can hear them, but you can't feel the *thump* in your ears). But you can always change it to something you like since it uses a common 3.5mm audio jack.

The Verdict
Though I can't really give a complete conclusion since I'm still a new user, but this is what I can think of:

The Nokia N82 is for you if:
- You are willing to read the manual (and call your telco company when you screw up PIN2 when tweaking the APN restriction)
- You are willing to memorize keypad shortcuts OR navigate through really deep menus just to launch the voice recorder application
- You want Xenon flash and great lens (5MP Carl Zeiss Tessa) with autofocus on your phone
- You want to expand the features of your phone by installing custom software
- You (like me) are a fan of HSDPA, 802.11b, GPS, GPRS, FM (radio) altogether
- You want a device capable of scanning QR Codes on stock configuration (the Japanese love to put it in web sites and magazines)
- You know what is Firmware, J2ME and Symbian.
- You want to break free from Apples, Oranges, Doors and Windows *wink*.

Overall I think the designer of the Nokia N82 really made an effort in designing the phone. (when compared to Motorola A1000: flimsy headphones, disconnecting USB interface, rusting USB connectors, missing quick dial etc.)

Life is a Game of Chess

Though we are pawns and though pawns are pretty much useless by itself, if they gather in number, they form an invincible team. When black knights and rooks try to push pawns around, pawns must act strategistically - that way even knights and rooks can't touch you and you can take them down any time by moving just one step diagonally. If it's a black bishop chasing after you, move straight on and the bishop is no more a threat.

Remember, there are still white knights, rooks, bishops and queens, you must know where to find them. Though it may seem black knighst, rooks, bishops and queens are overpowering due to thei numbers, they are highly stupid due to their barbaric nature - soon they will notice white pawns have always been secretly launching a revolt against them - leading to their destruction in one fell swoop.

Awaken, white pawns! The time has come! Eraticate all thoughts of "there's no way to change", "it has always been like this", "I'm too young to die", "I have 3 children"! (you want your children to be consumed by black knights and curse you for eternity?)

And soon, with proper planning and execution, one day, white pawns will be promoted to white knghts, rooks, bishops or even queens.

I am a Mirror

Should thou be cold, then I shalt be cold; Should thou be warm, then I shalt be warm. Thou shalt see thy reflection, for I followeth the third law of Newton.

Illusion

Ever think of one day we will came to realize that everything (alright, maybe not everything) we believe in is a lie - an illusion?

Today, my friend showed me a video on Benjamin Fulford discussing his claims that the Asian Tsunami, the recent earthquakes in China and the typhoon in Myanmar are neither coincidence nor natural disasters. They were all caused by a 3.6 MW (Mega Watts) microwave transmitter (HAARP) built by the US government. (Though I wonder why US won't use HAARP against Taliban in the first place. But that's out of my scope for today.)

What if - lie what Benjamin Fulford claimed, SARS was a biological weapon built to reduce the Asian population? Kind of odd. But anything is possible.

For instance Bodohwi's yoU-Must-Not-Object gang planned to save his ass by nullifying no-confidence votes of Line-Shit (Tip: Line = baris) members. Discipline? Yeah right, Captain "Mr. Clean".

(To think of it - The human (and evolution) history is not well documented. Who's able to tell me who first thought of rice can be de-husked, steamed and eaten? You man ancient humans just take anything and do some weird ass processing and 'voila!', food? Maybe we just take 'facts' for granted and never really think much about them. Since young, we've been taught: "Rice = Food, don't ask so much!")

The guy who invented trigonometry is pure genius.

Friend?

Language is a double edged sword. It is a communication tool, as well as a barrier between truth and perception. In modern culture, where 'moral' or 'manners' comes into play, words spoken have always not reflect the true intentions of the speaker. What I think, manners is a tool to mask deception, to cover our lies.

Though people may argue by not talking straight to the point has the effect of preserving the pride or the receiver or the speaker. In my opinion, these are a false sense of security which will result in the misunderstandings and exploitations we see today.

Shifting to the main topic - the relatioship between humans - 'friends'. If we look into the basic instinct of every living organism, te most powerful instinct of living organisms is the will to survive. To survive, humans can't exactly live alone. For that purpose, there are friends. The question is - can we conclude that humans make friends with the primary purpose to survive? If we think again, pretty much everything humans do is for the sake of themselves.

There's a Chinese saying that goes "don't do things you don't want others to do the same to you". When you intepret it, you avoid conducting something considered as bad because you do not want other peope to do bad things to you, which is a form of selfishness. What if you know others won't do the same to you? Will you do it? If you don't, why? Is it because it affects your image? What if your image will not be stained by your actions, will you do it? If the tought process continues, it can be eventually concluded that everything humans do and don't do is because of selfishness. We help people because we want to be helped, we don't steal because we don't want our properties to be stolen, we love because we want to be loved, we don't break the law because we don't want to stay in prison, we don't want to burden or parents because they are our only source of reliance...

Then what is selflessness? It might be related to self glory, sense of achievement or just to satisfy one's empty heart. Or does it really look like as what the movies and fictions portrayed?

"I save you because I don't want you to die."

Well, let's ask some interesting questions:
1. Why do you don't want me to die?
2. If I die what do you feel?
3. Why do you feel ______ when I die?
4. If you don't feel ______ when I die, will you still save me?

I admit human emotions can never be analyzed this way. If you put me into a situation where someone is falling from the stairs, for example. My instincts will tell me to grab that person before he/she falls, without a reason. (Well, you can say that injure causes pain. I hate pain. I don't want to be injured. I avoid others from being injured as if I avoid myself from being injured, hence "compassion". But then again, the thought process is not there.)

What if the person I saved from falling will rob me, or slap me in the face, or swear at me, or kill me. Will I still save him? I have to admit I'm not those pure 'selfness' people we've seen in the movies, chances of me saving wil be low.

The 'selfishness' we learn in school is what I intepete as 'dumb'. 'Selfish' people are not selfish, they're dumb. Why? Being 'selfish' will let you enjoy short term benefits, but not long term, because everybody is selfish and not everybody is dumb enough to let others exploit. Example, hogging all candies by yourself will let you have loads of candies for the time being, but does not secure your future share of candies. Unless, of couse if you are in a 'selfish' society, then being 'selfish' does not consider yourself to be 'selfish' but selfish instead.

Can I conclude all oranisms survive till now because of selfishness? Beats me.

(Please excuse my crapping. The words came out straight from by brain without error correction or further thinking.)
(If you can somewhat understand, leave me a comment on how you feel or something.)
